Companies House deals with between 50 and 100 cases of corporate identity theft every month. Fraudsters can change a company’s details and take control of a company.
Companies House runs a scheme, PROOF, which helps to protect your company from fraudulent changes. It restricts certain changes to a company being made by paper forms.
Some of the forms restricted to online changes only are:
· Registered office address
· Officers (appointments, resignations or personal details)
· Company name by special resolution
Checks can be made on Companies House records if your company applies for a loan, for instance. So it’s important the details are correct.
It’s free to join the service. Just search on “Join Proof” and you will find the relevant web page to sign up for the service.
